Young business men working in Australia appear to be overly concerned with their appearance and their perceived life styles. Many aim to live in glamorous apartments, often the penthouse in order to cement their relationship with their narcissistic egos. Metro males work long hours and exercise and party hard, leaving little time for cooking meals, so eating out or bringing home take-aways is often ‘de rigueur’.
In this painting Katrina Rose has transplanted a Currawong’s head on to a well-dressed business executive’s body, holding his evening meal of Asian take-away food, standing in his nest on the highest point available, a tall chimney. In the background a pattern of wall paper is depicted to confirm ideas of interior design style. From this vantage point the metro male can feel superior while surveying his world with the advantage of feeling safe and comfortable.
